I have teamed up with a wonderful team of bloggers who participate in “Five Minute Friday.” Here’s the skinny: Every Friday for nearly four years hundreds of people joined a kind of writing flash mob. We write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt that is posted by the the team starting at 10pm EST on Thursday night and all through Friday. And we connect on Twitter with the hashtag #FMFParty (It stands for Five Minute Friday Party). No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
The prompt for this week: MIDDLE
– – – – – – – – – – –
And….. GO.
The middle. Ohhhhh, the middle. That is where I always seem to be.
Growing up, I was the middle child. Sandwiched between my brothers, as the solo “girl” of the family, that is where I grew up. I remember being best friends with my younger brother, and thereby in the middle of the boys. Then getting older and being better friends with my older brother, and thereby in the middle of the boys again. Apparently, it’s hard to have just three siblings and always have an odd man out.
To continue this science experiment of life, I, myself, had three children. Guess what? I’m once again in the middle. In the middle of the endless fights and sibling rivalry. In the middle of the disagreements and the backtalk. Ohhhhhh, the middle.
On this frustrating morning full of sibling fights, after a sleepless night of children roaming through my bedroom for nightmares and monster sightings, I find myself thinking that I would like to be in the middle of a gigantic California king sized bed. In the middle of a hotel room. With no one around but ME.
Happy Friday the 13th all. I hope you’re in the midst of a much better morning than me!
Stop.
Love,
Your post made me smile. 🙂
Thanks so much, Latonya!
Your post is so funny as I can relate with much of this as middle girl between two brothers as well. You wrote about what I originally thought I might write about when I saw this prompt. Instead I ended up writing about Patricia Heaton! 🙂 Coming over from FMF #36
Thanks for stopping by FMF #36! Can’t wait to check yours out, also!
