Latte in hand. Leggings on. Decently picked up kitchen. Children’s laughter in the background. I can truly say I am enjoying this moment. I sometimes struggle with the simplicity of enjoy. It seems easy enough, sure. But there is always something to clean, dinner to start, work to finish, a fight to put out between three tiny humans still sculpting their troubleshooting craft. It’s hard to take time when there is no time to take.
Lately, I’ve been called to put duties on hold and try to enjoy. Enjoy the moments. Enjoy the problem solving. Enjoy the challenges. Enjoy the friendships. Enjoy our freedoms. Why else are we here? I once read a quote that said:
Ouch. It physically stung as we reflected that this was, in fact, what we were doing. We worked hard and sought medical intervention to bless us with three healthy babies. Yet our involvement with our offspring seemed to be limited to logistical planning, monetary fighting, and nagging to constantly move to the next scheduled event.
Yuck.
In the past several months, my husband and I have refocused our priorities and made life changes that will affect our ability to enjoy. Which, in turn, affects our children’s ability to enjoy. I’m so thankful we did. He is so thankful we did.
We have learned what it meant for us to enjoy life: Slowing down and living in the present, not harboring sadness for the past or fretting over the future.
What do you enjoy?
I have teamed up with a wonderful team of bloggers who participate in “Five Minute Friday.” Here’s the skinny: Every Friday for nearly four years hundreds of people joined a kind of writing flash mob.
We write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt that is posted by the the team starting at 10pm EST on Thursday night and all through Friday.
And we connect on Twitter with the hashtag #FMFParty (It stands for Five Minute Friday Party). No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
Join us this week for our #FMF prompt: Enjoy
HI, there! I’m so glad you are making small changes to enjoy life better. I’d love to know how you are doing that (any bit helps, right?) The world and your family is blessed for your efforts. Happy Thanksgiving!
❤️This: “Slowing down and living in the present, not harboring sadness for the past or fretting over the future.” I so agree! Living in the moment. As a mom of 4 teens now, I can emphatically say “enjoy each moment, the good the bad and the ugly,” cuz even the bad moments are fodder for wedding speeches when they get older. ????
Happy Thanksgiving!
