As my precious Madiana reached her first birthday, she was IN LOVE with all things colorful.  I won’t lie, I was inspired by the multi-colored layer cake I ran across on Pinterest while pregnant with her, so her interest in colors worked to solidify my plan.  Baby girl’s world would be in FULL COLOR as she rang in her second year of life.  What better birthday party for her than a RAINBOW PARTY!!!  It was a TON of fun to plan and put together!

First up – Invitations!

After fussing over props and accessories used during her in-home photo shoot (thanks to big brother for helping get a few smiles!), we ordered them through Shutterfly.  I can already see the eye rolls my children will give me as they read through various rhymes I’ve come up with for party invites through the years!

Like I previously stated, this beautiful cake was the inspiration for the whole party!  Did I worry that the whole thing would be ruined if I couldn’t pull it together the night before the party?  ABSOLUTELY!  Did I have a plan B??  NO.  It turned out to be fairly painless and even a little fun!  The last minute candles I found were the perfect extra touch!

Cutting in for the first time to see the end result…. YUM!

Hint:  To get the bold, vibrant colors (instead of pastel), you will need to get GEL food coloring.

Decorations:   Kiddo birthday parties for me are always a great excuse to print off as many pictures of their sweet faces as I can!!!

I also use parties as an excuse to make cake balls 🙂

One thing I would definitely recommend is large sheets of white butcher paper to cover the table.  How can you have a “Rainbow” party without letting the kids add their own dabs of color to the mix?? Both kids and adults had fun doodling throughout the day and evening!

The birthday outfit:  Yes, yes, this is also something I pre-plan.  Please tell me I’m not alone??  Again, I resorted to Pinterest where they had TONS of great DIY birthday onesie ideas.  I meshed a few together to come up with this and used leftover fabric to make adorable (though hard to capture in a photo) leg warmers.
