Hello! Welcome to Travels Over Toys! We’re so happy you’re here. We are a totally typical family of five, navigating the world one day at a time. Our season of life tends to involve less-than-picture-perfect days as we learn that siblings could be built in friends and not conquests to fight with. We have picky eating, messy rooms, homework battles; All of the things most families can relate to. What makes us different? We prioritize TRAVELS over TOYS and sneak away as often as we can!
What we are not: A full time traveling family schooling out of an RV and landing in a new zip each week. Wouldn’t that be great, though?
What we are: We have day jobs. Our kids are involved in activities and in traditional public school. We spend our free time planning all the trips we want to take and adding new games to our game closet. Have you played Slapzi? So fun!
Why we write about life: April is a former scrapbooker who can’t seem to get organized to track it all conventionally. Sooooo…. Can we count this as a scrapbook for now and invite others into the pages?
Fun Fact: Travels Over Toys was formerly known as Mojitos and Munchkins. All original content has been transferred over.
More about April: She loves using the creative outlet of writing to escape the chaos of a typical day. She loves movies, cocktails, lattes, the color purple, and day dates. She thinks the world could do without temper tantrums, soup, the color navy, and temperatures that dip below 20 degrees. Yet, we find ourselves living in Minnesota. Hmmm.
Allow me to introduce you to the main characters of our life story: Hubby Eric, Mama April, Brecken (the basketball-loving only son), Madiana (the middle child who loves hockey and art), and Gretchen (a perfect “baby of the family” who does it all). Beware: These little cuties turn into holy terrors when they decide to board the insanity train.
You can find our stories published on sites such as Scary Mommy, Confessions of Parenting, and Smart Mom. We also made several appearances (while learning a ton!) as a part of the Daily Mom family.
