During the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it is more important than ever to take time for a break. At our house, taking a break means snuggling up to a favorite Christmas movie during the holiday.  As parents, our first thought is making sure we cram all of the child-friendly activities in. We sit through Charlie Brown, we endure Frosty, but the Christmas movies we really want to see are the ones we watch when the kids go to bed.

Why Watch a Christmas Movie?

There is something so relaxing about settling in for a Christmas movie at the end of the night. Bonus points if you are watching under a flannel blanket while sitting next to a crackling fire. Hey, it’s Christmas. What better time to cross off all the cliches in one night?

The Christmas Movies We Love

These Christmas movies are our go-to each and every year. Although we could watch them the other 11 months out of the year, we always save them. They make us laugh, they make us cry, they get us in the spirit!

If you love Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn (and really, who doesn’t?) Four Christmases is the movie for you. It highlights the natural stresses that come with families during the holiday. It is the perfect match between romantic comedy and just downright good.

Christmas with the Kranks is a cheesy flick that challenges a family to boycott the traditional hullabaloo of Christmas. Then, a last minute phone call changes their plans and they are sent scurrying to put on the perfect holiday impression at the last minute.

Elf. Will Farrell. Hilarious. The most iconic movie EVER. If you don’t know this movie, and it isn’t already listed as one of your favorites, I don’t even understand. We make an exception for this one and watch it well beyond the holiday months.

Fred Claus is another Vince Vaughn movie, so again…. FUNNY. We all have that one golden sibling whom your parents praise and worship. But what if your little brother was Santa Claus? Find out in this film.

Love, Actually follows the lives of 8 couples whose lives intersect just before Christmas. It is a romantic comedy that you can enjoy with your significant other or a group of friends.

This next Christmas movie needs no introduction or summary. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. ‘Nuf said.

If you’re looking for an oldie but a goodie, try Trading Places. This hilarious film stars Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy and will leave you in stitches.

According to my Amazon account, I ordered this movie in March of 2007. The Holiday stars Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz who not only trade homes for the holiday but also trade luck.

Do you know what goes well with a Christmas Movie?

Do you know what goes well with Christmas movies? Hot chocolate. Or wine. Perhaps even pizza. And cookies. Definitely popcorn. The moral of this story is that you can add anything to your Christmas movie night to make it perfect.
